The Foundation for the Future - FftF - What is it?18 Sep 2023|Barry Rodgers
Fifty years ago the authors of The Limits to Growth addressed the issues of the growth of populations, industrial production, availability of arable land, natural resources, energy, waste, pollution of many varieties and the future of the human race as determined by health and longevity. This book was a magnificent precursor to future efforts to predict the future of us humans on this planet, a precursor that was roundly criticized by both economic and scientific institutions because it suggested we need to constrain our growth in many human endeavors .
Today it should be clear that we humans have overwhelmed our Earth with our demands for raw materials to build the worlds infrastructures to make a future come into being that is envisioned by those who dominate the economic structure of our World.
To summarize current conditions, I suggest the world has too many people who demand living conditions that is so different from what was expected and even hoped for 500 years ago .
We all need comfortable habitats, clean water, sufficient energy, transportation, entertainment, protection and to some degree privacy.
Today the reality is that there are too many people in this world that find such benefits unavailable.
What can FftF do about this?
We can ask questions and seek answers but in order to pose the question in a manner that someone, some experts perhaps, can answer. We need a forum.
I hope that FftF can be that forum.
I will start here with subjects to discuss:Can the World continue to support the existing population? How many more people can the world support, if any?How can we supply fresh water to everyone who needs it?How can we provide sufficient energy for all people? What are the immediate threats to our continued occupation of this world?
I view this last question to be of paramount importance and therefore we should address this first. The threat of climate change seems to be upon us and there does not seem to be an easy solution. Because of this I would ask you to raise your questions and concerns about climate change. I will try to gather the expertise to answer those.
Perhaps then we can move on to other detailed questions of how many billions of people can this world support. What can FftF do about this? We can ask questions and seek answers but in order to pose the question in a manner that someone, some experts perhaps, can answer.
We need a forum, we can be that forum.
I will start in my blog with subjects to discuss. Prominent will be Climate Change but there are many more to discusss . .
