In the same section of Wikipedia you will see graphs of the earth’s temperature over thousands and millions of years. These are estimates based on observations gathered from trees and the geologic record. They are approximate but in the last 50 years or so they are so accurate that we can treat them as true. According to NASA , while the Earth’s climate has changed throughout it’s history the current warming is happening at a rate not seen in the past 10,000 years.
